The Councilman for a Day program came to the Bogotá's Suba District, where young people from the Youth School #LiderandoElParche had the amazing opportunity to live the experience of being councilors for a day. This initiative, developed by the Verez y Saberes Foundation in collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Suba, offered young people a unique space to strengthen their skills in leadership and citizen participation.
During this day full of learning, young people participated in a track of activities designed to bring them closer to the functioning of local government and motivate them to be agents of change in their communities:
🗣️ Public speaking training: The young people received training in effective communication techniques, learning to express themselves with clarity and confidence in public scenarios.
🚶♀️Tour of the Bogota City Council building: They had the opportunity to learn about how is a Councilmans' day by day is, and understand its fundamental role in the governance of the city.
🧑💼 Chat with councilmans': They shared ideas and experiences with some of the city Councilmans', discussing their roles and the impact of the City's decisions.
📝 Project issuing training: As part of the learning by doing, the young people issued their own projects to improve their district, putting into practice the tools acquired.
The #LiderandoElParche initiative borne as part of the Democratic Budgeting program of the Suba's District, with the objective of empowering young Suba's people and helping them develop essential skills in leadership, civic participation and governance.
These types of activities reinforce the commitment of the Verez y Saberes Foundation and the Mayor's Office of Suba to provide young people with the necessary tools to become active leaders in their communities. The experience of Councilman for a Day was undoubtedly an important step for these young people to understand their role in decision-making and how they can positively influence the future of Bogota.
